Housing the focus of upcoming meeting in Shelburne

By Kevin Northup Nov 23, 2023 | 10:54 AM

The housing shortage is top priority for the Municipality of Shelburne.

The region has a deficit of 240 units, according to a recent housing assessment report.

A public meeting will be held Friday at 1 p.m. to present the results of the report and discuss the future outlook.

CAO Warren MacLeod says it’s not a quick fix.

“This is our number one challenge going forward. With the announcement of the new Roseway Manor this week, about 60 new nursing jobs will open up, so we’ll need to find accommodations for them. We’ve been in discussions with the developers,” said MacLeod.

A representative from the province will be there to talk about grants and resources.

MacLeod says the municipality will look to tap into some of those, as they work to find solutions.

“We do want to get the message out that we’re aware of the issue, and we’re coming up with our own housing plans and strategy to help the community.”

The meeting takes place at the municipal building.
