RCMP make arrest in drug trafficking investigation

By Regis Phillips Nov 21, 2023 | 6:43 AM

A Moncton man has been charged in connection with a drug trafficking investigation in the community.

In August, RCMP began an investigation into the trafficking of illegal drugs in the Moncton area.

Officers arrested a man in front of a hotel on Mountain Road on November 8.

Following the arrest, two search warrants were obtained for a hotel room and a residence on Cedar Street.

The search led police to seize quantities of what is believed to be fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia and money.

On November 9, a 50-year-old appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with possessing fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.

He is currently in custody and is set to return to court on November 29 for a bail hearing.

Anyone with information about, or who suspects, illegal drug activity in their neighbourhood is asked to contact their local police.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
