Local sports for Monday, November 20th

The NorWOSSA hockey season is officially underway.

The St. Thomas Aquinas girls team started off on a positive note with a 15-0 victory over the Sioux North Warriors  Sunday night.

Three Saints recorded hat tricks with Maddyn Hughes, Zeveah White, Calleigh Greer each scoring three times.

Tonight, the TA boys hockey team will also take on Sioux North tonight at the Moncrief Construction Sports Center.

A teddy bear toss will take place during the first intermission.

 

The Kenora U18 AAA Thistles earned a split over the weekend against the Parkland Rangers.

Yesterday, the Thistles were downed 7-1 by the Rangers.

Jackson Tucker spoiled the Rangers shutout.

That followed up on a 4-3 shootout victory by the Thistles Saturday night.

Jack Noel, Reidar Paquette, and Cayson Lambert scored for the Thistles in regulation time.

Carter Peters scored the only goal of the shootout.

 

The Sioux Lookout Bombers were the only team to win both of their games over the weekend.

The Bombers downed the Wisconsin Lumberjacks 8-2 on Saturday and 4-1 on Friday night.

They clawed their way to a two-way tie for second place with the Kam River Fighting Walleye.

The Walleye split their games against the Dryden GM Ice Dogs over the weekend, winning 6-4 Friday in Dryden, but losing 5-2 Saturday night.

The Thunder Bay North Stars have vaulted into first place in the SIJHL standings with 30 points, thanks to a 5-3 win over the Red Lake Miners Saturday night.

That followed up on the North Stars 3-2 loss Friday night to the Miners.

Both the North Stars and the Bombers have three games in hand on Kam River.

Elsewhere, the Fort Frances Lakers won both games against the Kenora Islanders in Vermilion Bay.

On Saturday the Lakers won 6-2 and 4-1 on Friday night.
