A major lobster processing plant in Clare is temporarily closing.

Riverside Lobster in Meteghan will not operate through the fall and winter months.

Parent company Champlain Seafoods says it’s due to what’s happening in the industry with lower catches.

50 local workers are affected, another 50 temporary foreign workers were supposed to work this season, but they were not brought to Canada.

The company says a decision has not yet been made about the Spring.
