Highway 105 speed limit to lower just west of Baddeck

By Caitlin Snow Nov 16, 2023 | 12:04 PM

You’ll soon have to slow down a bit on Highway 105.

The province has agreed to reduce the speed limit to 70 km/h just west of Baddeck by the Tim Hortons and Irving near Wagmatcook First Nation, after a 20-year effort.

It comes in response to a joint letter sent in early summer by Victoria County Warden Bruce Morrison and Wagmatcook First Nation Chief Norman Bernard, to Premier Tim Houston, requesting an immediate speed reduction.

Public Works Minister Kim Masland responded on Houston’s behalf, November 7 saying highway safety is very important and they are taking the concern very seriously.

The busy stretch of highway is currently at 80 km/h and has had numerous collisions.

There is no date just yet for when it will be lowered, but it is expected to be soon.
