New nursing home coming to Moncton

By Brad Perry Nov 15, 2023 | 12:12 PM

A new 60-bed nursing home is coming to Moncton, the province announced Wednesday.

The new nursing home, set to open in the fall of 2025, will be built by for-profit corporation Shannex.

Officials said the new home will be connected to Shannex’s Ocean Hall and Gordon Hall, which opened earlier this year.

These three licensed nursing homes are part of a broader campus being built behind the Northwest Plaza between Worthington Avenue and Mountain Road.

They will be connected by an indoor Main Street which mimics a small-town street and has a hair salon, café, town hall and a multi-purpose room that will serve as a chapel, theatre and community gathering space.

“With this newest home, we continue to add to the number of beds in the nursing home network across the province,” said Kathy Bockus, the minister responsible for seniors.

“As the aging population grows, adding beds is vital to ensuring all seniors have access to the right care at the right time.”

New Brunswick currently has 74 nursing homes, providing more than 5,100 beds.
