Several vehicles were towed and dozens of tickets were issued after an RCMP traffic enforcement operation in western New Brunswick.

The multi-agency enforcement operation took place in the St. Stephen and Oromocto areas on Nov. 2 and 3.

A total of 89 vehicles were flagged for assessment, and 17 of those were deemed unsafe and towed at the owner’s expense.

Officers also issued nearly 90 tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act, including eight for not wearing a seatbelt and 12 for using a hand-held electronic device while driving.

One person was arrested for driving while suspended and another person was arrested for driving while having a seven-day roadside suspension.

The operation involved the New Brunswick RCMP as well as officers and motor vehicle inspectors from the Highway Safety Enforcement Branch of the Department of Justice and Public Safety. The Military Police also assisted at Base Gagetown.
