Elementary school principal charged with historic sexual assaults in HRM

A Halifax-area elementary school principal has been charged with historic sexual assaults.

RCMP say the allegations date back to an elementary school in Eastern Passage in the late 1980’s and at a home in Lucasville in the 1990’s.

There were two victims involved, both youths at the time, and one with whom he was in a position of trust.

“The individual, who was previously on leave, is no longer an HRCE employee and has not been present in any school this academic year,” said Lindsey Bunin, Communications Officer with Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE). “We recognize this news is both shocking and upsetting. The safety, security and well-being of all students remains our highest priority.”

The 59-year-old turned himself into police on October 20th after a months-long investigation.

He was released on conditions and will appear in court next month.
