Kenora to post budget surplus

By Adam Riley Nov 8, 2023 | 9:07 AM

The City of Kenora looks to be in the black.

Initial figures show the city will have a budget surplus this year of over $875,000, with the biggest surpluses is expected in the Solid Waste department at $430,000.

A presentation of the city’s finances and projections will delivered to council today.

Meanwhile, council is also ready to approve the 2024 capital budget.

This comes a full five months ahead of last year.

Reasoning for getting the budget finalized sooner rather than later, according to the city officials, is to allow it to put projects out for tender and hopefully get a lower price.

One of the biggest projects slated in the budget is the painting of the Keewatin Channel Bridge, which comes in at about $4.35 million.
