Police said it happened in the area of Cunard and Waring streets in the north end around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

“The suspects demanded money and assaulted the victim with a chemical irritant,” police said in a news release on Tuesday.

“They then fled down a set of stairs, across Main Street and towards Kennedy Street.”

Officers, including the K9 Unit, searched the area but were unable to find the suspects.

The victim, a 57-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics and released.

Police said the suspects were described as being between the ages of 17 and 21 and were wearing masks and hoodies.

One suspect was described as Caucasian, about 6’0″ tall with a slim build, wearing dark clothing and armed with a weapon.

Another suspect was described as Caucasian with a medium complexion, dark curly hair, and also armed with a weapon.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area who has video footage of the incident.
