Fire damaged a single-family dwelling in Yarmouth.

It happened at a building on Pleasant Street around 11:30 last night.

Yarmouth Fire Chief Mike Deveau says they were on scene within 2 minutes.

“The homeowner was awoken by the smell. We made entry and discovered the scene of the fire. We were quickly able to extinguish it and then went into overhaul mode,” said Deveau.

There were no injuries, but one cat did not survive.

2 other cats were taken to a local animal hospital.

Deveau says the cause is under investigation, but no foul play is suspected.
