Feds reveal updated immigration targets

By Kevin Northup Nov 2, 2023 | 11:59 AM

The feds have announced new targets for immigration.

Minister Marc Miller says they’re maintaining their goal of 485,000 permanent residents for next year.

“And 500,000 in 2025. Starting in 2026, the number of newcomers we’ll aim to welcome will stabilize at 500,000, allowing for sustainable population growth,” said Miller.

He says our worker to retiree ratio has dropped to 3-to-1.

Miller said if we don’t welcome more newcomers, the ratio will continue to drop, and put our economy at risk.

“These immigration levels would allow us to bring in the skill and talent we need to fill labour gaps, and ensure Canada’s economics prosperities.”

He says their goal is to have 60 percent of permanent resident admissions dedicated to the economic class by 2025.
