OPP encourage everyone to be safe tonight

By Randy Thoms Oct 31, 2023 | 5:55 AM

Ontario Provincial Police are offering some safety tips this Halloween.

It recommends walking on a sidewalk if one is available and using crosswalks to cross the street.

Trick-or-treaters should wear bright colours to be more visible to drivers and ensure masks and other face coverings do not obstruct their vision.

While incidents of candy tampering are rare, parents should check over the treats before eating.

If any suspicious is found, call police immediately.

Motorists are reminded to be aware of the increase in pedestrian traffic and slow down, especially in residential areas.

Stay particularly alert for trick-or-treaters who may come out from between parked cars or behind shrubbery.

Never use or look at your phone when you’re driving.

Driving needs your full attention, particularly on Halloween when there’s an increased presence of pedestrians after dark.
