After most of Nova Scotia was treated to a lovely weekend of fall weather, parts of the province in Northern Cape Breton are now posied to receive snow.

A cold, low pressure system moved into the province over Sunday night and is slowly creeping North, bringing with it precipitation and some lower temperatures.

“Most of the province will see rain on Monday and into Tuesday evening, however in the higher areas of Cape Breton where it’s colder we could see 5-10 centimeters,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard.

The snow is expected to start early Monday afternoon and continue sporadically into Tuesday morning.

“It’s tough to predict if we’ll see accumulation or how much as with these early season snows the ground can still be pretty warm, causing the snow to melt on contact.

Although the contrast in weather from the weekend will be stark Hubbard says the Highlands getting snow this early in the year isn’t that uncommon.

Hubbard also said more snow is possible on Wednesday with another cold system heading our way, but said it was too early to tell if it will be snow or rain by the time it arrive.
