Council looking at significant property tax levy in 2024

By Tim Davidson Oct 30, 2023 | 11:14 AM

Kenora residents are looking at a hefty increase in their property taxes next year.

City Treasurer Ryan Marsh says if no changes are made they are looking at over a two million dollar increase from last year.

“The 2024 draft budget is sitting at $32,256,377, which ultimately is a 7.24 percent increase over the 2023 adopted budget,” March told council at the operating budget meeting last week.

Marsh explains that they started with an 11 percent increase and started cutting.

“That amount was $33,395,311, which would have been an 11 percent increase.  So that’s how we started the budget.  Administration goes through and refines, estimates assumptions…new information comes in.”

Council went over the operating budget last week and has a couple of weeks to look at it until their next meeting in November.
