Temp records on weekend, snow for Monday

By Tara Clow Oct 30, 2023 | 6:55 AM

Hopefully you got out and enjoyed the warmer than usual temperatures over the weekend.

Temperature records were broken on Saturday in Greater Moncton, reaching a high of 24 degrees and beating out the old record of 23.9 from 1947.

St. Stephen hit highs of 26.3 degrees.

But things are expected to take a turn weatherwise today, and it’s time to take out the winter boots, coats and shovels.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for areas including Greater Moncton, Sussex, and St. Stephen and Northern Charlotte County calling for our first blast of winter.

Up to ten centimetres of snow is forecast to fall between this morning and evening.

Environment Canada says the snow may mix with or change over to rain in southern and central areas during the afternoon.

Higher amounts are expected over areas of higher terrain.

Motorists should be prepared for winter driving conditions.

Saint John is not currently under the special weather statement.  Forecasts are calling for rain in that area instead.
