Town of Yarmouth to allow ATVs on Water Street

By Kevin Northup Oct 27, 2023 | 1:36 PM

ATVs will soon be allowed on Water Street in Yarmouth.

The town approved a by-law to grant the access to off-highway vehicles.

It will help connect the north and south ends of the Yarmouth Rail Trail.

Mayor Pam Mood says it’s been a long time coming.

“We’ve been working on this for 11 years, at least for me. Others have been working much longer. Economically and recreationally, it covers everything we want to do here,” said Mayor Mood.

The town had to wait for the province to pass legislation to give municipalities the power to do this.

Signs will be installed early next week.

Mood says there will be rules to follow.

“You have to be registered, licensed and of age. This is not about just letting any ATV on the street, you have to have all your paperwork in order. Policing will be in full force.”

The new by-law goes into effect on November 1st.

The town is the first municipal unit in the province to allow these vehicles access to a street.
