Rethinking Budget survey results released

Community Safety, housing and development are seen as the most important services provided by the City of Kenora.

The city has released the results of the Rethinking Budget Survey, which was conducted this past summer.

A total of 460 people took the survey.

It found that 30 percent of respondents would like to see the city increase rental rates for things like docks and launch fees and 84 percent said they would support new revenue generating ideas.

29 percent of people who answered the survey said they would support reducing existing service levels to have a tax increase lower than inflation.

But only 21 percent indicated they would support a tax increase above the rate of inflation to enhance services and expand recreational amenities.

Other interesting facts contained in the survey:  The average household income for people who took the survey was $101,554,  compared to $92,586 in eastern Ontario househ0lds.

45 percent of the people who answered the survey were over the age of 50.

The survey results were presented at an operations budget meeting Tuesday morning.
