A Terrace Bay man faces a number of charges after a vehicle left Highway 17 in Terrace Bay and plunged into the Aguasabon River.

The incident occurred just after 1:00 p.m. Saturday and resulted in the partial closure of the highway for several hours.

First responders descended into the river and secured the pickup truck.

An investigation by Ontario Provincial Police identified the driver, a 46 year old man from Terrace Bay, and determined he had failed to remain at the scene.

As a result he has been charged with:

  • Public Mischief
  • Careless Driving
  • Fail to Remain

Fortunately no injuries were reported to first responders, members of the public or the accused.

He has since been released from custody and will appear in court on November 23rd.
