Local sports for Monday, October 23rd

The play-offs have been set in Division III  of the Winnipeg High School Football League.

Dryden, Fort Frances and Beaver Brae will all have byes this week into the semi-finals.

The Muskies will play the Eagles in Fort Frances on November 2nd, for the right to advance to the league final.

Beaver Brae will play the winner of the game between the Tec Voc Hornets and the Churchill Bulldogs on Thursday.

The Broncos will have to travel to Winnipeg though on November 2nd for their semi-final the East Side Eagles Stadium.  Kick off for that game will be at 5:00.

 

A tough weekend for the Kenora U18 AAA Thistles.

They dropped both games they played, including a 9-1 decision on Sunday to the Eastman Selects.

Carter Peters scored the lone goal for the home side.

Despite the loss, Thistle’s goalie Morgan Blackwood stopped 50 shots.

On Friday, the Thistles were in Winnipeg and lost 4-3 to the Thrashers in overtime.

Peters, along with Jeremy Hutchison and Cayson Lambert scored for Kenora.

Their next game is on Wednesday in Winnipeg against the Wild.
