Work continues on Railway Street reconstruction

By Tim Davidson Oct 23, 2023 | 11:07 AM

Work on the Railway Street Rehabilitation project in Kenora continues.

Today, Titan Contracting will be ditching along the street and the road will be reduced to one lane of traffic.

In the meantime, Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Greg Breen says they won’t be able to complete work this year on the intersection between Gould Road and Railway Street though.

“That project is still sitting on that alignment,”  Breen told  city council at their open meeting last week.

“It’s primarily because of the settlement that we’ve seen on that kind of swampy area where that realignment was moved onto.  So, anyone who’s driving by there sees the volume of rock that gone in there.  Settlement is still taking place so we’re going to come back to that in the spring.”

Breen says they will be putting some pavement down on that section of road to ensure it’s a smooth surface during the winter.

“There’s no intention to leave that kind of rougher surface at the intersection for the winter.  We’re going to cap it with pavement.”

Breen adds that all the new poles have been installed and utilities such as Synergy North, phone and internet will be moving their lines on them during the winter.
