Nova Scotia’s Talent Trust has received its largest donation in its almost 80-year history.

The organization announced Tuesday it has received a generous $2.8-million gift from arts patron, the late Judith Grant.

Born in 1926, she grew up in Bedford and passed away in 2022.

Grant donated to many organizations, including the Maritime Conservatory where she once studied the cello, as well as Symphony Nova Scotia.

Board Chair Victoria Hines said although the money is meant for emerging musicians, they’ll “also be able to help other artistic disciplines to a greater degree, since now they can increase scholarships overall.”

Formed in 1944 to support soprano Portia White in her musical studies, the trust has since awarded over $2.5 million dollars to more than 1,000 gifted Nova Scotians, studying dance, music, theatre, and other artistic fields.
