N.S. Liberals want to return heating rebate to $1,000

By Steve MacArthur Oct 18, 2023 | 4:08 PM

The provincial Liberals want to know why our government has lowered the home heating rebate, and lowered the income threshold to access the money.

The rebate is $600 this year for families making less than $75,000 or singles taking in under $55,000.

That is down from $1,000 and a higher income limit.

Liberal Leader Zach Churchill believes lowering the rebate could not have come at a worse time and his party will introduce a bill to return the rebate to $1,000.

Living in Nova Scotia has never been more expensive than it is under the Houston government,” said Churchill. “Now is not the time to be limiting government assistance for Nova Scotians. Support is needed now more than ever and our bills today will ensure people across the province will get the support they need, and that they deserve.”

However, the majority PC’s would need to support the bill.
