Police are on scene of a stabbing in Dartmouth.

It was around 1:15pm Monday afternoon when police responded to an altercation between two people on the 200 block of Portland Street.

Police say a man had been stabbed with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries and he was taken to hospital.

Portland Street from Maitland Street to Albert Street is closed to vehicles and pedestrians at this time.

Police say the investigation is in its early stages and more information will be provided when available.
