Doggy Bathroom a hit on the Dragon’s Den

By Tara Clow Oct 16, 2023 | 10:07 AM

A New Brunswick native helped to impress on Dragon’s Den.

Co-founder of the Doggy Bathroom David Hébert appeared with the first-ever litter box for small dogs.

“So we’ve been in business since 2019, and we came up with a pretty innovative product with our small dog. When we adopted Sterling, which is a small Italian Greyhound, we realized there wasn’t anything on the market to help us hold up pee pads. We did a Kickstarter. That got the attention of some of the producers on Dragon’s Den, and for the last couple of years they have been asking us to apply. So in February, we took the time to go through the whole application process and lo and we were called in for an audition, and went in for taping in Toronto and at the end of May,” Hebert says.

The team of Hébert and Alain Courchesne reached a $350, 000 deal with Arlene Dickinson.

Hébert says they’ve been overwhelmed with orders, “We had made sure to have enough inventory and enough staff, but when you’ve got the CEO going in and personally making boxes and making sure that all those orders are going out in a timely fashion, it’s very exciting.”

He also offered some advice to other Entrepreneurs who might be considering the Dragon’s Den.

“I think we did a good job preparing but I don’t think there would be a problem with overpreparing. Nail down to make sure that you know what you’re going to be presenting in the first 90 seconds. You should really know your numbers. I would also say just you’re ready for anything. Alain and I were on set with our two dogs, and luckily our dogs behaved during the whole 90-minute taping. I would say it’s quite an experience, so don’t take it lightly. You come out with such beneficial feedback and offers. I think it’s worth the whole experience,” Hébert says.

Hébert grew up in Rogersville, New Brunswick before relocating to Winnipeg and then to Montreal, where the Doggy Bathroom business is based. He attended the Universite de Moncton.
