Ice Dogs maintain SIJHL lead with win over Islanders

Ryan Doucette and Jett Mintenko each recorded hattricks as the Kam River Fighting Walleye skated to a 9-3 win over the Wisconsin Wilderness in a SIJHL game played in Olver-Paipoonge on Friday evening.

The win is the Walleye’s fifth straight as the team moved into sole possession of third place in the standings.

Kaden Goodwin, Riley Borody and Brydon Bell added Kam River’s other goals.

Ryan Kayser, Carson Shafor and Connor Corcoran replied for Wisconsin.

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs maintained their lead in the SIJHL with a 7-1 win over the Kenora Islanders in Dryden.

Kaden Bandura, Bryce Benfield, Ryland Maier, Max Roby, Whittaker Heart, Tag Bryson, and Carson Devine scored for the Ice Dogs.

Darian Sinclair scored the Islanders’ only marker.

In Sioux Lookout, Jack Orchard stopped 31 shots to record his second shutout of the season as the Bombers blanked the Fort Frances Lakers 5-0.

Alex Lucas, Owen Cotter, Owen Riffel, Nolan Palmer and Ty Lone provided the scoring.

Tyler Jordan first period goal was the only one scored as the Thunder Bay North Stars held on for a 1-0 win over the Red Lake Miners in Red Lake.

Keenan Marks earned the shutout, stopping all 33 shots he faced in the game.

The same four matchups are on the schedule tonight.
