Canada announces $10M for Israel crisis

By Kelli Rickard Oct 13, 2023 | 9:40 AM

Canada is providing an initial $10 million in humanitarian assistance to address urgent needs in Israel and Gaza.

The funding will help provide food, water, emergency medical assistance, protection services and other life-saving aid.

Canada says it will ensure that no money goes into the hands of Hamas. Details on allocations to specific partners are to come.

Prime minister Justin Trudeau announced the funding as he addressed the Israel-Hamas conflict while in Yellowknife on Thursday.

Trudeau also announced that members of Canada’s Standing Rapid Deployment Team are heading to the region.

Meanwhile the first two airlifts of Canadians out of Israel were completed Thursday.

In a statement, Global Affairs Canada said the first flight included over 120 Canadians as well as passengers with other nationalities.

The flights came after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel last weekend, leading Israel to declare war against the militant group.
