A Kenora teacher has been presented a prestigious national award.

Kate Mays has received a 2023 Prime Minister’s Certificate of Achievement for teaching excellence.

Mays is a kindergarten teacher at Valleyview School.

Lisa Achilles, Principal of Valleyview Public School, stated, “Kate Mays is an exemplary kindergarten teacher who fully participates in all aspects of the teaching profession, striving to fulfil the board’s vision statement of putting students first.”

Christy Radbourne, Director of Education, added, “We are incredibly proud of Kate; this award is more than well deserved. She is a shining example of a truly great teacher who cares about her students. She celebrates their achievements, supports them through their challenges, is there for them when they need her and inspires them to always keep growing and learning. We are thrilled to see her receiving this recognition at such a high level.”

She is the second person to be recognized for this honor at that school and Cheri Grandbois, received the Prime Minister’s Excellence in Early Childhood Education Certificate of Achievement in 2021.
