The Mallons Play it Again Sports U18 AA Thunder Bay Queens women’s hockey team secured gold at the North American Showcase.

The showcase is an invitational tournament comprised of some of the top teams from Saskatchewan, New York, Manitoba, New Jersey, Ontario, and California.

The Queens got off to a scorching start in the tournament going undefeated in the round-robin portion of the tournament with a 3-0 win against Central York, a 3-1 win against Saugeen-Maitland, a 2-0 win against Stockton, California, and a 3-3 tie against Clarington to finish first in their division.

In the Queens’ semi-final game, they would knock off the number one team in Ontario, the Stratford Aces 3-0, on their way to clinching the gold medal and championship by beating the host Durham West Lightning 3-0.

The Queens had a tremendous defensive playoff in the showcase shutting out every opponent outside of the round-robin.

The coaching staff credits the dominant performance to solid goaltending, great defensive play, and a commitment to a game plan. The U18AA Queens’ team and staff were extremely thankful this Thanksgiving weekend to the Thunder Bay Minor Hockey Association, the Westfort Maroons U15AA team, the Norwest Stars U15AA team, and the Thunder Bay Kings U15AAA team for providing them with exhibition games before the tournament.
