The Yarmouth Mariners are finding their groove.

They had a come-from-behind shootout win on Saturday over Grand Falls in front of nearly 1,300 fans at the Mariners Centre.

Nathan Carter scored the shootout winner, his second of the season.

It was the team’s third straight win, they sit on top of the Eastlink South Division standings at 5-2.

Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says the crowds at home have been great.

“Attendance is way up over last year. The place is hopping, it’s the place to be in Yarmouth now. We’re so proud of what we’ve put forward, and it’s great to have the fans follow us into battle every night,” said Barron.

New goaltender Ben Williams got the win in goal Saturday, after Thomas Fontaine shutout Valley the night before.

Barron says they’ve relied on guys like Carter and captain Will Chisholm to be leaders offensively.

“A win like that doesn’t come easy. We’re a bit of a younger squad then we’ve been in the past. I thought they played well, and allowed us to find our game and come back.”

Yarmouth also got an honourable mention in the CJHL Top 20 rankings this week.

The defending MHL champs are back at it Friday night at home against Summerside.
