A warning about unsolicited emails from fraudsters posing as police.
RCMP are investigating numerous reports of fake email with actual police officer names and positions, threatening the recipient to contact them or “action” will be taken.
Once someone clicks the contact link, the scammer demands personal information and or something of financial value.
In some cases, they threaten to tell other authorities the recipient visited a pornography website.
Police say this type of scam is widespread and believe it often goes unreported.
They add that police and legitimate organizations do not do business this way and do not make threats.
Do not click on a link or use the contact information provided within an unsolicited communication.
