Ribbon Cutting for Rotary Peace Park

Despite the rain, a lot of people turned out for the official opening of the Rotary Peace Park in Kenora.

Sheelagh Reid is past president of the Kenora Rotary and says the park represents a lot of different things.

“This park really represents our community, and it’s the hope in the world,”  Reid said after the ribbon cutting.

“U think coming out of COVID, more than any time, we really want to feel hope and come together.  We’re embracing reconciliation in our community.  I’ve seen changes and I hope that’s going to continue.”

Reid also suggests the site is ideal for the peace pole they’ve installed.

“This park, it just fills my heart when I drive by. It’s such a beautiful space to come and to spend time with family, to re-kindle friendships and to just be with yourself on beautiful Lake of the Woods.  We couldn’t have had a better spot.”

The unveiling of a monument for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls also took place this morning at the Peace Park.
