By Randy Thoms Oct 1, 2023 | 2:17 PM

Easton Mikus tied a league record by scoring six goals as the Thunder Bay North Stars dumped the Kenora Islanders 11-4 in Kenora.

Mikus scored four times in the first period, including a natural hat trick to close out the first period, before scoring his fifth of the game in the second period and his final goal midway through the third.

Connor O’Brien, Eric Sheriff, Dimitri Trahiotis, Drew Caddo and Nolan Desjardins scored the Stars’ other goals.

Darian Sinclair, Keelian Levasseur, Aaron Bertschinger and Brayden Mackay scored for the Islanders.

The two teams face off again this afternoon.

In Spooner, Wisconsin, Jack Orchard stopped all 25 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season as the Sioux Lookout Bombers blanked the Wisconsin Wilderness 4-0.

Owen Riffel led the Bombers’ offence with two goals, his 6th and 7th of the season.

Jonah Smith and Connor Burke had the other goals.

In Dryden, an early first-period goal by Carson Devine stood as the winner as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs shut out the Red Lake Miners 2-0 to earn a split in the home-and-home series with Red Lake.

Max Roby would add an empty net goal while Ice Dogs netminder Michael O’Sullivan stopped all 28 shots for the shutout win.
