Local sports for September 29th

The Kenora U18 AAA Thistles begin their season tonight in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League.

The Winnipeg Bruins are in town at the Thistle Rink.

Game time is 7:30.

The Thistles are on the road Sunday for a game against the Eastman Selects.

This afternoon, Beaver Brae’s football team is looking to improve to a perfect 4-0 on the season as they host the St. Norbert Celtics in the Winnipeg High School Football League.

The Dryden Eagles are at home to the Tec Voc Hornets.

Both games start at 3:00.

Yesterday, the Fort Frances Muskies celebrated their 75 anniversary with a 46-0 beat down of the St. John’s Tigers.

The NorWOSSA court sport season is underway.

In AA action, Beaver Brae traveled to Dryden with the Broncos winning in boys volleyball but the Eagles dominated in girls basketball.

Beaver Brae’s junior boys swept the Eagles in three straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-21, while the Broncos boys won three sets to one.

It was a different story on the basketball court as the Eagle junior girls held on for a 32-20 win, and the Dryden seniors girls upended the Broncos 35-25.

In the SIJHL this weekend, the Dryden GM Ice Dogs play a home and home series against the Red Lake Miners.

Tonight, the Dogs are in Red Lake and tomorrow night, the series shifts to Dryden, with the Miners acting as the visitors.

Elsewhere, the Sioux Lookout Bombers are in Wisconsin for a pair of games against the Lumberjacks and the Kenora Islanders continue their home stand against the Thunder Bay North Stars in town for two games.

The first game is tomorrow night at the Moncrief Construction Sports Center at 7:30 and Sunday’s game is a 4:30 start.
