City and Synergy North preparing for power outage

By Tim Davidson Sep 29, 2023 | 1:13 PM

The City of Kenora is making contingency plans for a city-wide power outage Sunday morning.

City clerk Heather Pihulak says all city buildings and operations will be closed during the power interruption.

“Services where the public may be accustomed to accessing city services on seven day operations…so places like the transfer station, the Moncrief Construction Sports Center, the Bowman Electric Keewatin Memorial Area and the Discovery Center, those locations will be closed,” explains Pihulak.

Pihulak  adds that the city will still main sewer and water services during the outage.

“Obviously you’ll still have water. However, there may be reduced pressure during that time and we really encourage the public to reduce the amount of water they use during that time.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Kytor from Synergy North says they will have breakfast available to customers Sunday morning.

“We’re just trying to minimize impact and be there for the community and set up an outreach station on that morning where we’ll be providing a breakfast and have coffee available and any information or inquiries about the Hydro One project.”

The outage takes place from 6 am till 2 pm on Sunday.

Synergy North says they’ll be set up under the Jarnel Contracting Pavilion between 9 am and noon.
