Smoke in Sioux Lookout on August 15, 2023 (Listener submitted photo)

Hazy sun in N.S. due to wildfire smoke

You may have noticed hazy conditions the last few days.

Smoke from wildfires in western Canada is rolling through the atmosphere in Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says it was hanging over Quebec, and is now travelling to our region.

“We’ve also had fog around the last couple of days, so that’s another obstruction in the lower part of the atmosphere, that’s blocking the light from the sun,” said Hubbard.

Hubbard says it’s created a different looking sun, but the smoke isn’t making its way down to the ground.

“It’s not expected to be an issue, but we’re staying on top of it.”

He says the smoke should stick around for another day or so.
