‘Progress made’ on Mass Casualty Commission recommendations

By Kevin Northup Sep 28, 2023 | 4:16 PM

Action on recommendations of the Mass Casualty Commission.

The chair of the newly formed Progress Monitoring Committee says they just completed their first meetings with governments and RCMP.

Linda Oland says it will take some time to implement everything.

“It is complex work, but I want to underline that what the committee saw was commitment to action, and to change,” said Oland.

While the discussions remain confidential, the committee will meet quarterly and provide an annual report to the province.

“They’re held in confidence by me and all members of the committee, so that our discussions can be candid and fulsome.”

The MCC released recommendations based on the response to the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shootings.

She noted the mandate of the group over the next 3 years is to make sure these recommendations don’t collect dust on a shelf.
