The Houston government is spending $103, 239 on new safety equipment for fire departments in the Guysborough-Tracadie area.

The six departments receiving the funding are:

– Erinville Volunteer Fire Department – $16,945: towards the purchase of miscellaneous fire
equipment
– Chedabucto Volunteer Fire Department – $17,480: towards the purchase of PPE and SCBA
equipment
– Goshen and Area Volunteer Fire Department – $20,000: towards the purchase of rescue
equipment
– Milford Haven Fire and Emergency Services – $20,000: towards the purchase of PPE and SCBA
equipment
– Canso and Hazel Hill Volunteer Fire Dept – $20,000: towards the purchase of miscellaneous fire
equipment
– Auld’s Cove Volunteer Fire Department – $8,854: towards the purchase of miscellaneous fire
equipment

It comes from a $1.5 million investment the province made to benefit 80 fire departments across Nova Scotia to help first responders get the equipment they need through the Emergency Services Provider Fund.

“Our government understands the work our volunteer first responders do when called upon in an emergency,” said MLA Morrow. “That is why we continue to fund fire departments so that
volunteers have what they need, when they need it.”

The Houston government supported Nova Scotia fire departments last October, when they invested $10,000 on two separate occasions to help offset rising operational costs.
