N.B. chief medical health officer to face committee questions

New Brunswick’s chief medical health officer will face questions from the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.

The legislative committee held an in-camera session on Tuesday and voted unanimously to call Dr. Jennifer Russell to appear.

“The committee remains unsatisfied with the responses we’ve received thus far and felt it pertinent in our duties as legislators to seek further clarification directly from the Chief Medical Officer of Health on her role in the decision-making process,” said Chuck Chiasson, chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and MLA for Victoria-La-Vallée. “It is the responsibility of this committee to validate that New Brunswickers are getting good value for their money and that the government is achieving the outcomes it sets out.”

The decision was based on presentations from the Executive Council Office on the Auditor General’s report on the province’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There’s no word on when Russell will make her appearance.
