Grand Council Treaty #3 is planning to construct a new administration building.

A sod turning ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon on the old pulp mill property in Kenora.

The new building will take 18 to 24 months to construct.

When it’s complete the 26,000 building will have three floors.

The location will have plenty of parking and provide easy access for staff, clients and visitors.

Treaty #3 says this will be state-of-the art building which will be energy efficient.

The new building will also have specialized environmental controls for items of historical and cultural significance.

The new administration building will replace an aging structure at the old Cecilia Jeffrey residential school location on Round Lake.
