More than 700 volunteers are being sought as the city prepares for the upcoming Ontario Winter Games.

22 events are taking place at multiple sporting venues with 2,200 athletes, coaches and officials participating, and volunteers are needed to help run operations.

Kathleen Jones is the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Communication with Tbaytel, the volunteer sponsor for the games, says volunteers will play a pivotal role in ensuring the event is a success for all.

“We at Tbaytel share in the pride of the athletes, coaches, local sponsors and volunteers. Our sincere thanks to the organizing committee and everyone involved in making Thunder Bay the home of the 2024 Ontario Winter Games.”

Positions and roles for the games range from accreditation, security, sport and event operations, transportation and opening ceremonies.

There is also opportunities in food services, which consist of the delivery of meals, administration, and running the registration area.

Organizing committee Co-chair Barry Streib is looking forward to the games, set to take place from February 15th to 23rd, noting its a wonderful way to showcase the city.

“It’s a big deal for our community to host a major event like this. We always rise up to the challenge, and this is our chance to show the province that our commitment and hospitality is second to none.”

Those who wish to apply can do so by filling out an online volunteer application, which will be open until November 30th.

The Ontario Winter Games were first delivered in 1970 in Etobikcoke with Thunder Bay first hosting it in 1974.
