One of the last big fishing tournaments is happening in Rainy River.

Fishing at the Rainy River Walleye Tournament got underway today.

It will continue tomorrow with a champion declared in the afternoon.

Tournament president Richard Trenchard says the top five teams from tonight will be paraded through the tent at Hannam Park.

“So, that will be the last bunch of teams that come in to get weighed. The highest weights of day one. It’s always really exciting. We put on a really big show and have lots of prizes. The music’s loud. Everybody’s excited to see what’s going to happen. There’s always some antics that go on,” says Trenchard.

There are other activities taking place as well.

There is a mini kids’ tournament and nightly entertainment tonight and tomorrow night.

There are also several vendors on site.

“There’s an overabundance of vendors this year and also penny table raffles. The boat draw tickets are also on sale.”

The West Rainy River District Lions Club is putting on a fish fry tonight and a pig roast tomorrow.

The weighs take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

You can also follow the results on their website.
