A year long investigation has resulted in charges of weapons smuggling and prohibited weapons possession against a Nipigon man.

In August of 2022 officers with the Canada Border Services Agency intercepted a package containing a taser at the Vancouver International Mail Centre, which was destined for a home in Nipigon, prompting the launch of an investigation.

This resulted in a search warrant being executed at the home by CBSA investigators and the Ontario Provincial Police on August 9th of this year.

During the search several prohibited weapons were located and seized, including one nunchaku, three shurikens, seven prohibited knives, two conductive energy weapons, and a cartridge for a conductive energy weapon.

The accused faces the following charges:

  • Smuggling, contrary to Section 159(1)(a) of the Customs Act
  • Possession of illegally imported goods, contrary to Section 155 of the Customs Act
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapons, contrary to Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code
  • Knowingly importing prohibited weapons/devices into Canada, contrary to Section 103(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

He is expected to appear in court on October 3rd.
