A 28-year-old man is facing charges following the theft of a vehicle from downtown Fort Frances.

OPP say the incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Not long afterward, OPP received a call about an erratic driver on Highway 11, east of town, in a vehicle matching the description of the one taken.

Police managed to stop the vehicle about 100 kilometres east from where it was stolen.

A driver and a woman were immediately taken into custody.

The man from Rayside-Balfour was later charged with several offences including:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code

He made a court appearance in Fort Frances on Friday.
