Solicitor General Michael Kerzner announced a major investment from the Ontario government to help modernize fire training and resources across Northern Ontario.

17 new fire trucks, and lifesaving fire equipment are headed to Northern Ontario communities following the $35 million investment from the Ontario government announced in Thunder Bay during Firecon.

Kerzner listed some of the equipment included in the funding at the event: “the lifesaving firefighting equipment will include self-contained breathing apparatuses, thermal imaging cameras, and other essential firefighting equipment.”

Two new Mobile Live Fire Training Units were also announced doubling the provinces total units. Enhancing training capabilities for the Ontario Fire College.

Thunder Bay – Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland calls the announcement a benefit for northern fire departments that rely on volunteers.

“These training enhancements and new equipment will be welcomed by the men and women who answer the call.”

Funding for the new trucks and equipment will be delivered through the Northern Fire Protection Program.
