If you have plans to travel in Minnesota this summer, watch your speed.

Law enforcement in Minnesota is keeping a close watch on the roadways this month.

An enforcement campaign to crack down on speeding is underway.

It coincides with the increased traffic in the summer months.

The state’s Office of Traffic Safety says 46 per cent of all fatal collisions that occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day happen during the first 25 days.

“During the first 25 days of the current 100 days, preliminary figures show 46 people have lost their lives in crashes. That’s the highest in that timespan in the last ten years,” says OTS Director Mike Hanson. “As Minnesotans hit the road for Fourth of July, they can help change this deadly trajectory with smart choices such as slowing down.”

The fine for speeding ranges from $40-$150.

A person can also see jail time if the speeding violation endangers the public or if the driver had two prior traffic convictions in the past year.
