The Great Lighthouse Rescue is underway this hour in the Thunder Bay harbour, raising funds for the United Way of Thunder Bay.
CEO Albert Brulé says he is very happy to see this updated version of the Great Billboard Rescue come to life through all the community support.
“So we have thirteen teams going out as castaways, and we have more than thirteen, because we have some co-captains and some rescue teams have come together, but essentially thirteen rescue missions.”
Teams of castaways are stranded out at the lighthouse as a means of raising money for charity.
During its quarter century run the Great Billboard Rescue managed to raise around two million dollars, but Brulé says they have set a goal of $75,000.
“Lets see how it goes, we set our expectations relatively modest just to try it out this year, and then we’ll build in years going forward. But the enthusiasm, the excitement, the energy of our community partners the volunteers, the community captains that have come forward its been incredible.”
Rescues are taking place until 5:00 p.m. and if you happen to be in the marina area cash donations are accepted or you can go to the United Way of Thunder Bay’s website and donate online.
