Atlantic Canada’s lone professional soccer franchise, the Halifax Wanderers will be hosting youth soccer camps around the region this summer in an effort to help grow the game and foster development.
“The primary goal is to grow the game and improve access to it, but we also know how much it can mean for children to meet professional soccer players and show them that there is a pathway to a career in this game close to home,” said Wanderers Sporting Director Matt Feagan.
So far the team has announced three camps in Halifax, Mahone Bay, and Antigonish- they are also in the process of finalizing details for three other camps in Sydney, Charlottetown, and Moncton.
Feagen says the Wanderers will be partnering with local clubs to put on the events, in hopes that it will also help foster future collaboration with grassroots soccer organizations across the Atlantic Canada region.
Due to the local partnerships each of the camps will have its own unique theme:
Antigonish – Play Gàidhlig: Celebrating Nova Scotia’s Scottish roots, In partnership with FC Sonas, an organization in Scotland using the universal language of football to share the Gaelic language.
Mahone Bay – For the Love of the Game: This camp is designed to introduce games that are accessible to all, ensuring that every participant can fully embrace the passion and excitement of soccer.
Halifax – Train with the Pros: This camp is the perfect opportunity to discover the passion and skills required to become a professional soccer player.
All of the camps are open to youth aged 7-12 of all skill levels and info on how to register can be found through the Wanderers website.
