A new summer exhibit at The Antigonish Heritage Museum.

Immigrant Voices will tell the stories of immigrant communities in the Town and Country, from the Lebanese peddlers of the early 20th century to the Ukrainian refugees of the 2020s.

Dr. Barry MacKenzie, the museum curator says “While we can’t possibly tell the stories of every newcomer who has come to Antigonish Town and County in the past 125 years, we hope to highlight some of the different ethnic communities which have developed here in that time. Groups like Lebanese, Dutch, Chinese, Indian, German, Latvian and other immigrant groups deserve to be added to the canon of our collective story.”

The museum is hoping members of the community can get involved by loaning photos, artifacts and sharing stories.

The exhibition will launch in late June, and will be on display at the Antigonish Heritage Museum through the fall of 2023. Anyone interested in collaborating on the project, or wishing to learn more, can contact the Museum at antheritage@parl.ns.ca or (902) 863-6160.
