Lifeguards recruitment still impacted after years of COVID shutdowns

By Steve MacArthur Apr 24, 2023 | 1:46 PM

The organization responsible for hiring and training lifeguards is still working to recruit people.

The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service tells our newsroom they are feeling the ripple effect caused by COVID shut downs over the past few years.

They need about 85 lifeguards across our province to supervise more than two dozen beaches

Spokesperson Paul D’Eon says they still need to hire more staff before July 1.

Last summer, some swimming holes were not staffed because of the shortages.

D’Eon says they are working hard to fill the remaining positions they have to fill.
